Jace – 9 Months

I had a great session with 9 month old Jace. We had originally planned to do the shoot outdoors, but it was overcast and rainy on this day, so we started off indoors against a white background.

It was chilly outside, but we had a break from the rain long enough to run outside and get some quick shots in the yard of a nearby house.

Allie and Lucy

Allie and Lucy dropped by for some more photos. This time they brought along their little friend, a solid black toy poodle named Izabell.

This shoot was in January a couple of days after it snowed. I had in mind that I wanted to do a shot where the girls were working a lemonade stand in the middle of a snowy winter, so this was working out good. Unfortunately, the snow was almost all gone by the time we got started, but there was enough for effect.

We started off indoors to get a few basic shots against a background so that we weren’t being constantly pressured by the cold weather. I remembered that these girls just love to dance, so we got some great shots of them boogin’ down. We soon moved outside for the lemonade stand shots.

I was trying out an Elinchrom Ranger Quadra unit for this session. It was nice, light, and portable, but not enough power when we moved outdoors. I’m going to have to try a different setup, but for what it was it was a great little unit.

Thanks to Allie, Lucy, and Izabell for begin such great sports. And also thanks to Megan Schmidt for assisting!

Katie – 3 Months

Morgan – 1 Year

Heather and Bryan brought Morgan by for her 1 year photos, as well as some Easter-themed shots. Here are a few of my favorites from the session.

Most of the sessions I’ve had with Morgan have been indoors, so we headed outside for this one. I had a strobe and an umbrella ready in case we needed it, but the natural light was perfect so we just rode with that.

Hannah – 3 Months

This was my first opportunity to spend some time taking photos of little 3-month old Hannah. I tried to get Jared and Kennye in on the shots as well. Here are a few select images from this session.

It was a little chilly on this day, so we did the shots indoors against a white background. My main light was an Alien Bees AB1600 with a beauty dish. Hannah held up pretty well against the flashing lights.

Baby Photography – Turner – 3 Months

I count myself very fortunate for having the opportunity to photograph my own son, Turner, for his 3 month photos. My wife really liked a composite I had done for Morgan previously, so she requested that I do the same for Turner.

I did a quite, humble setup at my house and got some great photos of him. I was very happy with how the shots turned out, especially the composite piece. Children are such a blessing to a family and a household, and I hope these photos show how proud and happy we are to have Turner in our lives.

Also, as a personal project, I did another composite of Turner seemingly lounging in a swing fashioned from a receiving blanket and a few milk bottles. Don’t worry, no babies (or bottles) were harmed in the making of this photo!

Child Photography – Morgan – 9 Months

Little Morgan came to visit me for some 9-month and holiday photos. Being the diva that she is, she had several different outfits to choose from. So, I just threw up a white background and let her be the main subject.

She definitely worked the space as she crawled from one end of the seamless to the other quickly. I had to be quick and fire off several frames while she was actually on the set.

We had a chance to get mom and dad involved in a couple toward the end of our session. At that point, Morgan knew she was no longer the sole center of attention, so she was having enough of the photos.

Baby Photography – Morgan – 6 Months

Little Miss Morgan’s parents wanted to have some 6 month photos taken, and most notably a composite done for each of Morgan’s features.

We did some indoor shots against a black background to have a better translation to black and white, then went over to Centennial Park to do a few outdoor shots.

Baby Photography – Katie Canary

I recently had the pleasure of working with little Katie Canary once again, this time for her 10 month old shots.

I’ve worked with children enough to know that you’re only going to hold their attention for a short amount of time, so you have to make it count. We did some indoor studio shots first. Once she had a cute pose and I was in focus, I’d just fire off frame after frame in hopes that she’d let me see a smile every once in awhile. I got lucky several times and ended up capturing a few nice moments.

Once Katie got a little irritable, we took a short break, changed her clothes, and headed outside. We had her sitting on a blanket, a little red chair, and then finally getting hugged and kissed on by her parents.
