Trent and I were introduced through a mutual friend and I was excited to work with him on some photos for his website and music promotional materials. I didn’t want to stick Trent in a barn or a field like you would expect for a Country artist. I wanted to add a little bit of that edge that his music has.

We made our way over to Marathon Village in downtown Nashville. I just love the gritty and dirty textures and I thought it’d work well for Trent.

I’d hoped to do some more work outdoors, but the rainy day wasn’t cooperating with us. We focused on some shots in the old factory as well as against a backdrop.

We were both very happy with the shots. Be sure to check out Trent’s music if you’re wanting to sample a slightly differently flavor of traditional Country.

My main intention for this shoot was to just do a quick walkaround the area and try to find some fun and interesting photos. I traveled light; just a Canon 430ex and an umbrella on a small lightstand. One of Stacey’s kindergarten friends, Brittney Elise, was kind enough to assist me with this.

      

We only explored a small part of the area that we were in, but I was happy with the shots we ended up with. Stacey’s one regret was that she forgot to bring her Ukulele!

We met up in downtown Nashville and wandered around the city, looking for some cool locations. We ended up doing some setups right on the riverfront, in a deserted parking garage and an old alley (near Banker’s Alley, what soon became referred to as “Hepatitis Alley” to poke fun at one of the bandmates that had no shoes on), the corner of 2nd and Broadway (right in front of Hard Rock cafe), and then the Gateway Bridge.

I was especially excited because my old buddy Jeremy was going to be on hand performing with his band Marujah. I’d seen them play before but was looking forward to having a chance to take some photos of them.

This is the third session I’ve done at the Rutledge. It’s a cool joint and it’s always nice to see the crowds getting bigger and bigger. If you’d like your band to play at the Rutledge, or for more information on the next upcoming event, check out OgyJoe.com.

He’s a very intense and animated individual in real life, so I wanted that to come out in these pictures. The one main shot I had in mind coming into this shoot was him sitting in a mostly-dark room surrounded by a pile of guitars. Mark brought in all the instruments he owns and we started getting it setup.

This is one of those shots where you take a picture, see what you’ve got, then make some minor adjustments until it’s just right. It was a lot of fun and we got several great looking shots. Below is my favorite shot of that series.

We spent most of our time indoors getting the high contrast shots. Once we were satisfied with what we had there, we went downtown to a grungy alley and spent some time there. We ended up with the headshot (above) that I think is the highlight of the session.

It was a lot of fun and I hope to be able to work with Mark again in the future. We’re already discussing some more headshots for his upcoming album since he’s gotten his hair cut since we took these shots.
